a very wet chase in the land of lincoln

This was the last day of our trip. Our only option today was to follow the cold front east as it headed across the Midwest. The cap was nonexistent today, so storms quickly developed along the cold front in Illinois and became a squall line. Still, a few supercells developed along the line. We made it to all of the areas in south-central Illinois that experienced severe weather today, only problem was that we were an hour late. After driving through lots of rain, trees, and hills - we ended up in Vandalia IL at about 8:00pm. Recognizing we were storm chasers, concerned residents came up to us wondering if there was going to be another tornado - apparently some fairly large hail went through the area an hour earlier, and a tornado passed a few miles south of town. The front passed rather quietly (albeit with a few rumbles of thunder) as we stood in the Hardee's parking lot chatting with locals. We then all had a nice dinner at a nearby Pizza Hut, then parted ways for the long drive back home at 9:30pm.

An ominous sky looms over Vandalia IL near sunset. I wasn't able to get much video here - the saturated air (temp and dewpoint both 68F) set off the dew detector on my camera.
